It is not currently possible to import the old blog posts from this blog to the new one, but that will be done as soon as possible.

CSA databases move to new Proquest platform

CSA (now a part of Proquest) has previously provided us access to over 60 separate databases, which could all be searched in the Nelli portal. Now these databases have been grouped into 21 larger databases and been moved to the new Proquest platform, which also hosts 12 other databases. These can all be searched through Nelli as well as on the platform.

Ellibs e-books now use IP-based authentication

The Ellibs ebook service now authenticates, like the rest of our e-resources, based on user IP-address. This means that anyone can access the material in the university network and that remote use requires Aalto authentication. The books can no longer be accessed with the login based on Otaniemi library card details, and as that is no longer required, all Aalto members can now access the books.

Nelli portal to Aalto identification on Monday 9 May 2011

There will be service breaks in Off campus access on Monday 9th of May 2011, as we move to using Aalto indentification in the Nelli-portal. After the change all users with Aalto identification can remotely use the materials through Nelli.

The old MySpace accounts are available until Sunday 8th of  May 2011.

Unfortunately the MySpace accounts in Nelli can not be converted from the old to the new user names. Please save the references in your bookshelf to eg. Refworks or some other reference management system. You will need to find and save your preferred databases, journals and alerts again after the new log-in begins.

Reminder about using Myilibray ebooks

Note when using MyiLibrary books:
The Myilibrary books are easily locked from use due to suspected breaches of copyright. The following instructions were given to ensure continued use of the books:

Printing: Do not try to print more then copyright allows. The limit is given as you select the Print Multiple Pages function.

Browsing: If you want to move quickly ahead or behind in the book use the Go To Page function or the Table of Contents. Browsing quickly with the Previous and Next functions can cause the book to be locked, as if the pages are turned quicker than they can be looked at automated downloading is suspected. The Previous and Next functions can be used when reading or browsing the book at a reasonable rate.

By abiding by these recommendations we can improve access to these books. Hopefully no more books will be locked right before exams!

Aalto log-in at DawsonEra

The DawsonEra ebooks are now accessed with Aalto-login. This causes changes in the ebook links in Teemu, but those should be updated by Moday. Until then, the platform can be accessed through Nelli.

The DawsonEra ebook platform is going to require Aalto log-in from Monday the 7th of March. This means the data saved under the TKK log-in names will be lost. This will affect two functions:

Favourites: Please ensure you copy your favourites list to another program, so you can easily find the books again and enter them into the new favourites list.

Notes: Please download your notes for each book and save them to another program. Once in a book with notes this can be done from the notes section and you will get a document with your notes with a reference to the pages in question.

Scopus Download PDF tool

A Download PDF option has been added to the results list of the Scopus database. It allows the download of multiple selected articles at once from the publisher website. This option is always shown, whether we have a subscription to the journal in question or not. So, if we have bought access to the journal the pdf can be downloaded by Scopus, but if no access has been bought Scopus can not retrieve the document.

Scopus now also has SFX buttons beneath the records and you can check our access from the SFX-menu.

CSA databases move to new Proquest platform

CSA has previously provided us access to over 60 separate databases, which could all be searched in the Nelli portal. Now these databases have been grouped into 21 larger databases and the searching no longer works in Nelli. The individual databases can still be searched on the CSA Illumina platform, by following the link in Nelli.

In a few months, however, access to the Illumina platform will cease, as Proquest (which CSA is now a part of) moves all of its databases to a new platform. After this migration it is no longer possible to search the separate databases. The new platform includes the 21 larger databases as well as 12 other databases. These can all be searched through Nelli as well as on the platform. These will be made available in Nelli as soon as possible. The old CSA databases have (CSA) in the title and the databases on the new platform are marked with (Proquest).

Temporarily no access to Wiley Chemical Handbooks

We currently have no access to the Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry or the Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology. The publisher has been notified and asked to return access as soon as possible.

I apologise for the inconvenience caused!

Move to new SFX: Monday the 17th of January 2011

As I posted last year, we are moving to a new version of SFX-linking and the SFX-window will have more content and a new look. The move was delayed several times from the original timetable, but has now been confirmed to take place on Monday the 17th of January. There is a possibility of a Nelli usage break of up to 5 minutes.

Important changes in the Nelli-portal

The Nelli portal will start using Aalto identification in the beginning part of 2011.
Unfortunately the MySpace accounts in Nelli can not be converted from the old to the new user names. Please save the references in your bookshelf to eg. Refworks or some other reference management system. You will need to find and save your preferred databases, journals and alerts again after the new log-in begins.
